Book Club Course Details:

Let's buzz with the joy of reading with our fabulous book club! We offer a carefully selected range of books to excite all young readers.ย

Our Book Clubs are fully interactive and consist of the following:

  • Independent Reading: Every week, the children have a set number of pages to read before the next lesson. This reading is to be done in their own time, in preparation for the lesson.
  • Discuss and Debate: To develop speaking and listening skills, we will start each lesson with a discussion of what the children read. We will encourage children to express themselves clearly, sharing different interpretations and beliefs.ย
  • Quiz Whizz: Next, the children take part in a Kahoot quiz which focuses on different types of comprehension question.
  • Word Warriors: To develop children's vocabulary, we pick out ambitious words used in the chapters and the children complete an activity based on these words.
  • The Deep Dive: Here, we explore one aspect of the story more closely. This includes story analysis, writing skills, character study, critical and lateral thinking, exploration of feelings, debating dilemmas and exploring themes.
  • Scribble and Sketch: The final challenge each week is something creative. Children will be encouraged to upload their Scribble and Sketch work to Google Classroom so that it can be commented on and shared in the following lesson.

The Wild Robot by Peter Brown

When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. She has no idea how she got there or what her purpose isย -ย but she knows she needs to survive. After battling a fierce storm and escaping a vicious bear attack, she realises that her only hope for survival is to adapt to her surroundings and learn from the island's unwelcoming animal inhabitants. As Roz slowly befriends the animals, the island starts to feel like home - until, one day, her mysterious past comes back to haunt her.

Why we chose this book:

I think The Wild Robot is my all time favourite children's book! I cry every time I read it and it touches a range of emotions for me. It covers various important topics, such as diversity within families, caring for the environment and the parent-child relationship and, in many ways, it reminds me of my own relationship with my son.ย

What parents say about our book clubs:

"My daughter absolutely loved Bright Light Educationโ€™s Book Club! The sessions were engaging, thoughtful, and fun โ€” she really connected with 'The Explorer' and looked forward to every class. The tutor created such a supportive environment that encouraged discussion, critical thinking, and a love of reading. Weโ€™ve seen a real boost in her confidence and canโ€™t wait to join the next one!" (Jankhana, Parent)

"My son loved the online book club, he is a reluctant reader but the weekly sessions really helped encourage him to pick up the book and get to the next chapter. The teacher we had was super enthusiastic and the lessons sounded very fun. Thank you for another brilliant course! We will be back soon."ย (Gemma, Parent)

"My son loves reading, but I was looking for a course where he can develop that love for books even more. For me, itโ€™s not just about reading โ€” itโ€™s important that he builds strong comprehension and understanding of the stories. Thatโ€™s when I found Bright Light, and I couldnโ€™t be happier with their service and book club. [My son] absolutely loved the book โ€˜The Boldsโ€™ โ€” such an amazing story for kids! As a mum, I appreciated everything about the program, and we have already registered for the next book club course. Highly recommend for any parent wanting a meaningful reading experience for their child!"ย (Nirvana, Parent)

"My daughter loves the book club. It is wonderful! She didnโ€™t use to read at all, but this course has inspired her to start reading. The teacher is encouraging, and weโ€™re looking forward to joining the next book."ย (Joyce, Parent)

4 reviews for Online Children’s Book Club: THE WILD ROBOT

  1. Aisha

My daughter loved this club. She doesnโ€™t find focus easy, so I really appreciated the way the tutor asked her questions even if she didnโ€™t have her hand up. She was kept engaged by the pace and was always eagerly awaiting the Kahoot Quiz! Many thanks

  2. Juliana Velez

My 9-year-old daughter absolutely loved The Wild Robot! It was a fantastic selection by Bright Education โ€” a beautiful story full of valuable lessons and important values for children. We both truly enjoyed discussing it together. Sheโ€™s already registered for the next book club, which will be her third one after The Bolds and The Wild Robot. We canโ€™t wait!

  3. Adriana

The book club approach is fanatastic. This is the first time that my 8-year old daughter has read a whole book from start to finish. The way they divide the story into six reasonable sections allows for the children to really reflect on everything that happens in the book. Having the list of words to look up also helps understand their meaning in context. My daughter loved the oppotunity to play in kahoot and the teacher has very clever ideas for the drawings. Finally, the Wild Robot is an extraordinary book, fun, clever and kind, and it gave us an opportunity as a family to discuss a story we all liked. We will definitely be back for more!

  4. Minori

My 9-year-old son doesnโ€™t like reading, but this book club has encouraged him to read books. I was so amazed that he was able to read ‘The Wild Robot’. He had never finished reading such a long story before! Since he kept reading every week during the lessons, he was able to understand and enjoy the story. Now he has the confidence to finish reading books. He will continue taking lessons for a long time!
