BOOK BEES Book Club Course Details:
Let's buzz with the joy of reading with our fabulous book club! We offer a carefully selected range of books to excite all young readers.ย
Our Book Clubs are fully interactive and consist of the following:
- Independent Reading: Every week, the children have a set number of pages to read before the next lesson. This reading is to be done in their own time, in preparation for the lesson.
- The 60-Second Synopsis: To develop speaking and listening skills, one child will give a 60-second synopsis at the start of the class by summarising what they read for homework.ย
- Quiz Whizz: Next, the children take part in a Kahoot quiz which focuses on different types of comprehension question.
- Word Warriors: To develop children's vocabulary, we pick out ambitious words used in the chapters and the children complete an activity based on these words.
- The Deep Dive: Here, we explore one aspect of the story more closely. This includes story analysis, writing skills, character study, critical and lateral thinking, exploration of feelings, debating dilemmas and exploring themes.
- Scribble and Sketch: The final challenge each week is something creative. Children will be encouraged to upload their Scribble and Sketch work to Google Classroom so that it can be commented on and shared in the following lesson.

The Wild Robot by Peter Brown
When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. She has no idea how she got there or what her purpose isย -ย but she knows she needs to survive. After battling a fierce storm and escaping a vicious bear attack, she realises that her only hope for survival is to adapt to her surroundings and learn from the island's unwelcoming animal inhabitants. As Roz slowly befriends the animals, the island starts to feel like home - until, one day, her mysterious past comes back to haunt her.
"A modern-day classic in the making" -ย Booktrust

Why we chose this book:
I think The Wild Robot is my all time favourite children's book! I cry every time I read it and it touches a range of emotions for me. It covers various important topics, such as diversity within families, caring for the environment and the parent-child relationship and, in many ways, it reminds me of my own relationship with my son.ย
