Bright Light Education is proud to be an Artsmark Partner, supporting schools and education settings on their Artsmark Journey.
Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, awarded by Arts Council England, recognising their commitment to high quality arts and cultural education.
Bright Light Education is proud to be supporting schools and education settings on their Artsmark journey, inspiring children and young people to create, experience, and participate in great arts and culture.
We offer education settings who are working towards, or currently hold an Artsmark Award, support through our creative writing after-school clubs.
Creative Writing After-School Clubs:
About the Activity:
We offer ready-to-deliver creative writing clubs. Each club contains high quality, ready-made slideshow lessons, with supporting resources. No planning is required! They are ideal clubs to run throughout a school half or full term. As the clubs are designed to be delivered by in-house teachers, schools have the flexibility to choose when to run the club, how many children will participate and how much they will charge parents.
They can also be used during small-group literacy intervention classes, as well as within whole class English lessons.
Key Stage:
Our clubs are aimed at Key Stage 2. There are clubs for Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 2-3) and clubs for Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5-6).
Art Form/s:
Creative Writing, including poetry.
How the activity links to the curriculum:
Our clubs fit in with the Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 statutory requirements for English, most notably within “Writing Composition” and “Writing – vocabulary, grammar and punctuation”.
Learning Outcomes:
Our clubs have the following learning outcomes:
- Children will learn to generate ideas and use their imagination to create stories and characters;
- Children will learn to write clearly, concisely, and descriptively;
- Children will learn how to vary their sentence structures, including sentence openers;
- Children will learn new ambitious vocabulary to use in their writing;
- Children will learn different writing techniques, such as using figurative language for effect, Show Don’t Tell and suspense techniques;
- Children will learn how to create strong characters and settings;
