   “This course has helped me to identify different types of questions such as literal and inference questions. I also learned how to use the PEE and use fancy phrases to start sentences. I also learnt how to annotate texts and how to write character analysis questions too. I also learnt to use phrases for comparisons and differences. Furthermore, we tried out multiple choice questions and we learnt language devices and structural devices. Finally we looked at emotions and themes in comprehension of poetry.”

   “I thought that the course was fun and I learned a lot. I enjoyed looking at the 8 mark and 10 mark questions even though at the start I didn’t really like them. I also liked the short 1 mark questions. Learning how to do comprehension with a poem was very helpful as that has always been something I wasn’t good at but now I feel more confident with this. I learned a variety of skills to help analyse a text, including SHAMPOP, PQRSTUV as well as learning the different types of questions including literal, language, summary, going over P.E.E and finally looking at characters. I feel I have learned a lot in this experience and I have taken away a lot more than what I had to start with. Thank you.”

   “We’re thrilled how much our son enjoyed the comprehension course last week. We were expecting stiff resistance (comprehension is his least favourite activity) so we were surprised to find him rushing his breakfast because he “didn’t want to be late” for the lesson. At the end of the course, he came back beaming and saying he wanted to do another one. We were impressed at how much he had learnt over the course of the week and how much his confidence has grown.”

It is definitely an area that [my son] finds challenging and the weekly sessions, breaking down the different types of questions and techniques, are hugely helpful. While [my son] can be quite reticent and is usually bit reluctant to join the early morning sessions on a Saturday (!), he is always very positive and enthusiastic afterwards.    “Our daughter took the English Comprehension course. We were very happy with the course and the quality of the teaching. The tutor put our daughter at ease from the start and guided her through gently and with encouragement. I think our daughter was surprised with her own ability at the end. The group size was just the right balance to give the children enough attention but also work off each other. Wouldn’t hesitate to use again.”
