Essay & Debate Club Details:

This club helps children become stronger writers, clearer thinkers, and more persuasive speakers. 

Through engaging discussion topics, structured debates and regular writing tasks, students learn how to develop ideas, build convincing arguments, support opinions with evidence, consider different viewpoints and organise their thoughts into clear, well-structured essays.

It is ideal for KS3 students in Years 7 and 8 as it develops the critical reading, transactional writing (articles, letters, speeches and essays), and debate skills needed for GCSE English Language Paper 2 (AQA and Edexcel) and the Spoken Language endorsement.

Additionally, the course provides excellent preparation for students aiming for international qualifications such as EIKEN Grade Pre-1 or Cambridge B2 First. It is equally suitable for pupils preparing for English essay-based overseas school entrance exams, while developing core language skills that students may later use when progressing to qualifications such as TOEIC.

Themes covered

Throughout the year, the following topics are covered:

• Science & Technology
• Environment & Health
• Business & the Economy
• Culture, Media & Global Issues

Within each theme, students explore thought-provoking questions through reading, discussion, debate and writing for different purposes and audiences.

Rather than focusing only on exam technique, the course develops transferable skills in essay writing, critical thinking, argumentation and debate that students can use across entrance examinations, school subjects and their wider education.

• The online classes are led by a highly experienced teacher.
• £20/hr. All course prices are inclusive of VAT. If you are based outside of the UK, the course price (without VAT) will be updated at checkout but you may be subject to additional bank charges, which are determined by your financial institution.
• Homework is marked and pre-recorded videos of the lessons are available.

• The tutors running our courses are qualified teachers with exemplary references. All tutors hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate and are signed up to the Update Service.
