Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Opportunities and Resources for Tutors

Bright Light Education is committed to ensuring that the tutors we work with offer the best service to clients.

Whilst many of our tutors are practising teachers, we are aware that some of our tutors are no longer working in schools and so perhaps miss out on CPD opportunities.  With that in mind, we are proud to be able to offer the following CPD opportunities – some offered by us and some through other organisations who we have partnered with.

We have also published a range of books which can be used by tutors to support their students. We would love for you to take a look!

Best wishes,

Charlotte & Dani

Bright Light Education Webinars

11+ Webinars for Tutors

We know that the 11+ exam is an area which many tutors want to learn more about and so we have created webinars specifically to support tutors. The webinars are 40-45 minutes long and can be viewed in your own time, at your own pace.

We hope these webinars provide tutors with the confidence and knowledge they need to get started with 11+ tutoring. We also hope the webinars are a valuable tool for existing 11+ tutors.

Both the English and maths webinars also include a downloadable and editable Excel spreadsheet listing over 200 independent and grammar schools in the UK and where available, listing the exam format and examining board, together with links to past papers and familiarisation booklets. This download will remain ‘live’ for tutors and we will update it annually.

Those who tutor with us as well as those who are members of The Tutors Association can receive a 25% discount. Please use the coupon code TUTORWEBINAR at checkout to claim the discount.

If you have purchased our webinars already, we would be grateful to hear your feedback on these. Please head to the product page of the webinar and scroll down to the reviews tab to leave a review. Thank you!

Raising the BAR: Writing Assessment Grid

We wholeheartedly believe that children should be taught the art of writing through storytelling and creative writing. Children should feel excited to write, to let their imaginations run wild and, at the same time, be taught a range of wonderful writing skills to make their writing captivating for their audience. Our ‘Raising the BAR’ standards assess children on what we feel are the important criteria for writing. Whilst our levelling process has been influenced by the National Curriculum and TA Framework for Writing, we have removed the ‘Transcription’ element (as this can be assessed separately), and created a process which should motivate rather than discourage children. Additionally, we have added new criteria; criteria which encourages children to enjoy writing through storytelling. For example: can I use personification to describe the atmosphere; can I use Show Don’t Tell for developing the emotions of my characters; can I use hyperbole to develop humour or exaggeration in my writing?

Those who tutor with us as well as those who are members of The Tutors Association can receive a 10% discount. Please use the coupon code TUTORBAR at checkout to claim the discount.
