Lower Key Stage 2 Creative Writing After-School Clubs

What is included in the programme?

How long can my school use the clubs for?

You can access the clubs for as long as you have purchased the programme for. A school term is based on a UK school term (around 4 months). If you have purchased one term, please let us know when your term ends, in the additional information box during check out. Please also let us know the email address/es for the teacher/s who will be accessing the clubs, so that we can set up an account for them. There is no limit on how many times you run the clubs during the set period. 

Overview of the Clubs:

Term 1:

Imaginative Ideas Club:
Length of club: 10 x 1 hour sessions

This ten session club focuses on the wonderful device, 'Show Don't Tell' to describe emotions, the weather and settings. Each week, the children will learn how to create descriptive sentences based on a theme, using ambitious vocabulary and figurative language to strengthen the imagery in their writing. The children will practise creating similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, alliteration and onomatopoeia as well as practising how to develop their sentence structures through powerful adjectives, adverbs and verbs.

Term 2:

Cracking Comprehension Club:
Length of club: 10 x 1 hour sessions

This 10 session club focuses on developing children's reading skills and teaching children how to understand and analyse a piece of text. Within the club, children will be exposed to a range of texts and will be taught how to respond to different questions based on the text. They will also develop their creative writing skills, using the comprehension text as a prompt for a writing idea.

Term 3:

Poetry Club:
Length of club: 5 x 1 hour sessions

Desert Island Discovery Club:
Length of club: 5 x 1 hour sessions

During these five sessions, children will create some wonderful characters who find themselves drifting to an uninhabited desert island on a family holiday. What problems will they encounter? How will they return back to safe land? Each session, the children will write a different section of their story, together with practising literary devices and developing a rich vocabulary. It is a fun-filled, interactive course, where the children have the opportunity to create their very own adventure story!
