Our Igniting Writing Club is designed to support Years 4-6 children with creative writing (ages 8-11 years). The club is 10 sessions long (1 hour per session) and generally schools choose to run the club over one term, with one lesson per week.

Our Igniting Writing Club is designed to support Years 4-6 children with creative writing. The club is 10 sessions long (1 hour per session) and generally schools choose to run the club over one term, with one lesson per week.
No planning is needed by the teacher. The club comprises of 10 high quality PowerPoints which the teacher works through, together with our Creative Writing Skills book, which must purchased for each student. The book can be bought in bulk at a discounted price of £5 per book school. Please choose the required number by selecting the appropriate option at checkout. If you would like to order more than 20 copies, please contact us directly. This club teaches children how to develop language and writing skills when writing a piece of fiction.
(The club has been adapted from our Core Skills and Story Writing Course, which we have been running successfully to individual families since 2019.)

How long can my school use the materials for?
Schools purchase a termly licence. Schools are allowed to run as many clubs as they would like to, within the purchased time frame. If a school would like to purchase an annual licence, please contact us directly.

Overview of the Club:
Session 1: Adjectives, Adverbs and Verbs
Within this session, the children practise ‘Boosting their Language’ using ambitious adjectives to improve their writing, powerful verbs to make their writing stand out from the rest as well as attention-grabbing adverbs to keep their readers hooked.
Session 2: Creating Cracking Sentences
Within this session, children practise varying sentences to improve their writing. They look at how to include different sentence structures in stories, followed by learning new and exciting ways to start sentences.
Session 3: Mastering Figurative Language 1
Within this session, children practise using figurative language in their writing, specifically focusing on creating unique similes and metaphors.
Session 4: Mastering Figurative Language 2
Within this session, the children look further at figurative language including the use of personification and hyperbole.
Session 5: Senses
Within this session, children learn how to write descriptively through the use of senses.
Session 6: Show Don't Tell
Within this session, children focus on Show Don't Tell to up-level their descriptive writing.
Session 7: Building Suspense 1
Within this session, children learn a range of techniques for building suspense in writing.
Session 8: Building Suspense 2
Within this session, children continue to develop their suspense writing skills by completing a short story.
Session 9: Let's Write! 'Lost'
Within this session, children complete a piece of creative writing using the skills learned on this club.
Session 10: Let's Write! 'The Shop'
Within this session, children complete a piece of creative writing using the skills learned on this club.
