Amazing Amazon Adventure (Schools)

Our Amazing Amazon Adventure Club is designed to support Years 5-6 children with creative writing.  The club is 5 sessions long (1 hour per session) and generally schools choose to run the club over one half term, with one lesson per week.

This five-session course provides a wonderful opportunity for children to write their own adventure story, with guidance along the way. They will create a wonderful character, who finds themselves immersed in the Amazon rainforest, battling against various encounters and desperate to reach their goal. Will they succeed? Each session, the children will write a different section of their story, together with practising literary devices and developing a rich vocabulary.  

What is included?

• 5 high quality, ready-to-use PowerPoints. These will be sent as links. See below for an example lesson.
• Tool Kit on how to use the PowerPoints (it's very straightforward).
• PDF advert about the club which can be emailed to parents.
• Writing Assessment Grid for assessing progress (if required)
• Support from a live teacher to answer any questions you might have.

How long can my school use the materials for?

Schools purchase a half-termly licence. Schools are allowed to run as many clubs as they would like to, within the purchased time frame. If a school would like to purchase an annual licence, please contact us directly.

Overview of the Club:

Session 1: Planning our Story
During this session, the children are given their challenge! They will be writing a whole story during the sessions and today starts with the planning of the story. They will come up with ideas of what problems they might face as they trudge through the Amazon rainforest.

Session 2: Starting our Story
During this session, the children will decide who the main character in their story will be and then design their character, using brilliant creative writing skills to make them interesting and unique!

Session 3: Building up the Story
During this session, the children will be describing their character entering the rainforest. They will use their sentences from Lesson 1 to add them to their story and use their senses to make their rainforest come to life!

Session 4: The Problem!
During this session, the children are given the chance to learn some tricks to up-level sentences. Then the children will be using this skill to write the second (and third) problems in their stories.

Session 5: Ending your Story
During this session, the children will  be spending some time constructing some super sentences to use in their stories. Following on from this, the children will write the end part of their story and at this point, their character discovers the lost city!
