We are thrilled to announce the winners of our 2nd Creative Writing Competition for children aged 7-13. It was extremely tough to judge as the entries were so fantastic! As one of our judges wrote, “I must tell you that this has been, without doubt, the most difficult competition I have ever judged and that was for all the right reasons. I was absolutely amazed by the quality and inventiveness of the stories and I feel that everybody who entered should feel very proud of themselves.”
This year, we awarded “Bronze”, “Silver”, “Gold”, “Gold 3rd”, “Gold 2nd” and “Gold 1st” places.

We run 12-week Creative Writing Courses for children aged 9-11 years. In the first 6-week block, we focus on learning different skills or techniques, including mastering figurative language, using the Show Don’t Tell technique, and learning how to build suspense effectively. In the second 6-week block, we focus on learning how to structure a story, including how to create powerful story starters, character and setting descriptions, and how to develop the storyline.

Creative Writing Skills is designed for any child striving to develop their creative writing skills. It is particularly aimed at Key Stage Two children, as well as those sitting an entrance school examination such as the 11 plus. The book is a combination of textbook and workbook. After learning about each technique, there is an activity for the child to work through, to consolidate their understanding.
