Creative Writing Taster Class

Desert Island Discovery (Summer Holidays)

This five-session course provides a wonderful opportunity for children to write their own adventure story, with guidance along the way.  They will create some wonderful characters, who find themselves drifting to an uninhabited desert island on a family holiday.

Each session, the children will write a different section of their story, together with practising literary devices and developing a rich vocabulary. 

Amazing Amazon Adventure (Summer Holidays)

This five-session course provides a wonderful opportunity for children to write their own adventure story, with guidance along the way.  They will create a wonderful character, who finds themselves immersed in the Amazon rainforest, battling against various encounters and desperate to reach their goal. Will they succeed?

Each session, the children will write a different section of their story, together with practising literary devices and developing a rich vocabulary.  

Core Skills and Story Writing Course (Autumn Term)

This 12-week creative writing course is ideal for 8-11 year olds who are preparing for an 11+ examination, which includes a creative writing component.

Within the course, children learn the essential skills and language techniques required to write a high quality piece of writing, together with learning how to structure their writing with confidence.

Writing for Different Purposes (Autumn Term)

This 12-week creative writing course follows on the from Core Skills and Story Writing Course, teaching 8-11 year old children how to write different genres.

Topics include: recount writing; playscript; discursive writing; autobiographical writing; writing the next chapter; formal persuasive letter writing; descriptive writing; newspaper report writing; ending the story; book analysis and writing a story.

Creative Writing Task (Autumn Term)

This 12-week creative writing course brings together previous learning to really bring 8-11 year old children to the next level. 

Each week, the children focus on responding to an 11+ creative writing task within the lesson. They will re-cap vital creative writing skills, including improving grammar and vocabulary as well as using effective language devices. 

Comprehension Course (Autumn Term)

This 12-week comprehension course is ideal for 8-11 year olds who are preparing for an 11+ examination.

The course teaches children how to respond to a range of comprehension questions, including inference, character analysis and text evaluation.

11+ Interview Preparation Course

This three session course is for 8-11 year olds wishing to prepare for an 11+ interview as part of a school entrance examination.

The course helps children to present themselves in the best way possible, as well as exploring a range of 11+ interview questions. 

11+ Mock Interview

Our online 11+ 1:1 Mock Interview offers children the opportunity to practise an interview.

The interview includes written, detailed feedback sent after the interview.
